Effective July 1, 2025, all Florida health care practitioners are required to complete background screenings and fingerprinting. We’ve gotten lots of questions about this!

The new requirement applies to all initial licenses as well as license renewals.

For initial licensing, it is now incorporated to the application process. Anyone who submitted an application prior to or possibly shortly after July 1, 2025, during a time when the screening requirement was not yet incorporated into the application, should wait to hear from the Board about whether the screening needs to be completed before the new license is issued.

For all current licensees, screening will be required as part of the process for our next license renewal. We will need to be prepared to complete the screening as part of our renewal when the renewal window opens 90 days before our license expires- the window will open approximately December 30, 2026 for those of us with a March 31, 2027 license expiration date. Since this is the first time this requirement is in place, it’s recommended that we complete the screening and renew our license as early as possible during that 90 day window to prevent any delay.
